A Journey from Colombia to Mars
Diana Trujillo's extraordinary journey began in Cali, Colombia. Growing up in a modest neighborhood, she harbored an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a fascination with the unknown. From a young age, she devoured books about space exploration, dreaming of one day leaving her mark on the cosmos.
Despite facing challenges and skepticism as a young woman pursuing a STEM career, Diana's determination remained unshaken. She excelled in her studies, earning a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland and a master's degree from the University of Florida.
Making History at JPL
Diana's exceptional talents soon caught the attention of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). In 2005, she joined JPL as an entry-level systems engineer, embarking on a remarkable career that would forever change the course of space exploration.
Over the next decade, Diana played a pivotal role in the Mars Science Lab mission, which landed the Curiosity rover on the surface of Mars in 2012. As part of the Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) team, she was responsible for ensuring the safe and successful entry of Curiosity into the Martian atmosphere.
