A Memoir

I was just a kid when I started delivering papers. I didn't know it at the time, but that job would change my life.

I was 12 years old and living in a small town in the Midwest. My family wasn't rich, but we were comfortable. My parents both worked, and I had two older sisters. I was a good kid, but I was also a bit of a dreamer. I loved to read and write, and I always imagined myself as a journalist.

One day, I saw an ad in the local newspaper for a paperboy. I applied and got the job. I was excited to start, but I also knew that it would be a lot of work.

I had to wake up early every morning, even on weekends. I had to fold and deliver hundreds of newspapers, rain or shine. It was a tough job, but I loved it. I loved the feeling of being out on my own, delivering the news to people's homes.

As I got older, I started to get more involved in journalism. I wrote articles for my school newspaper, and I even interned at a local newspaper. I learned a lot about journalism during those years, and I realized that it was what I wanted to do with my life.

After I graduated from college, I got a job as a reporter at a small newspaper. I worked my way up the ranks, and eventually became the editor of the newspaper. I loved my job, and I was proud of the work that I did.

I've been a journalist for over 20 years now, and I've seen a lot of changes in the industry. But one thing that has never changed is my love of journalism. I believe that journalism is essential to a free and democratic society. It's a way to hold those in power accountable, and to give a voice to the voiceless.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been a paperboy. It's a job that taught me the value of hard work and dedication. It's a job that gave me the chance to pursue my dream of becoming a journalist.

If you're a young person who's interested in journalism, I encourage you to get involved. Write for your school newspaper, or start a blog. Volunteer at a local newspaper or magazine. The more you learn about journalism, the more you'll love it.

And who knows? You might just end up being the next great journalist.
