I was on a family vacation to Cape Cod, and we were taking a whale-watching tour. I had never seen anything so large or so majestic. I was working as a journalist in San Francisco, and I was assigned to write a story about a group of scientists who were studying humpback whales off the coast of California.</p> <p>I spent several days with the scientists, and I was amazed by their work. They were using a variety of techniques to study the whales, including photo identification, acoustic monitoring, and biopsy sampling. I learned a lot about humpback whales during that time, but what I remember most is the feeling of awe and wonder that I felt every time I saw them.</p> <p>After that experience, I knew that I wanted to learn more about whales. I started reading books and articles about them, and I even went on a few more whale-watching tours. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became.</p> <p>In 2012, I decided to write a book about my experiences with whales. I wanted to share my love of these creatures with others, and I wanted to inspire people to learn more about them. I also wanted to explore the ways in which whales can teach us about ourselves and our place in the world.</p> <p>Journeys in the Company of Whales is a personal and literary odyssey. It is a story about my encounters with whales, but it is also a story about my own journey of self-discovery. Through my experiences with these magnificent creatures, I have learned about the importance of curiosity, compassion, and perseverance.
