In 2003, American entrepreneur James Reynolds was arrested in Shanghai and sentenced to 15 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. For the next six years, he endured unimaginable hardships and brutality in one of China's most notorious prisons.
In this gripping first-hand account, Reynolds recounts his harrowing experiences inside Shanghai Prison, a place where prisoners are treated as less than human. He describes the daily humiliations, the constant fear, and the physical and psychological torture that he and his fellow inmates were subjected to.
But Reynolds's story is not just a tale of suffering. It is also a story of hope and resilience. Through it all, he never gave up hope of one day being free. And despite the horrors he witnessed, he never lost his compassion for his fellow inmates.
Monkey House Blues is a powerful and unforgettable memoir that exposes the dark underbelly of the Chinese prison system. It is a must-read for anyone interested in human rights, criminal justice, or the realities of life in modern China.
