The 1980s were a time of great change for the Legion of Super-Heroes. In 1980, the team was relaunched with a new creative team, led by writer Paul Levitz and artist Keith Giffen. This new team took the Legion in a more science fiction-oriented direction, and introduced several new characters, including Cosmic Boy, Shadow Lass, and Princess Projectra.
The 1980s also saw the Legion face some of its greatest challenges. The team was forced to confront the Time Trapper, a powerful villain who sought to destroy the Legion's timeline.
