In his autobiography, From Basildon to Broadway and Back, Biggins charts his journey from his humble beginnings in Essex to his glittering career in the West End and beyond. The book is full of hilarious anecdotes and behind-the-scenes gossip, and Biggins offers his unique insights into the world of show business and the ups and downs of life as a celebrity.
Biggins was born in Basildon, Essex, in 1948. His father was a docker, and his mother was a cleaner. Biggins grew up in a working-class family, and he left school at the age of 15 to work in a factory. However, he always dreamed of becoming a performer, and he eventually joined a local amateur dramatic society.
In 1968, Biggins landed his first professional acting role in a touring production of the musical Hair. He went on to appear in a number of other musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita. In 1981, he made his West End debut in the musical Cats. Biggins played the role of Rum Tum Tugger, and he quickly became one of the most popular performers in the show.
Biggins went on to star in a number of other West End musicals, including Hello, Dolly!, Chicago, and Spamalot. He has also appeared in a number of films, including Victor/Victoria, The Producers, and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
In addition to his work in theatre and film, Biggins has also appeared on a number of television shows. He has been a regular guest on the shows Celebrity Big Brother and Loose Women, and he has also hosted his own chat show, The Biggins Show.
Biggins is a natural storyteller, and his autobiography is full of hilarious anecdotes and behind-the-scenes gossip. He offers his unique insights into the world of show business and the ups and downs of life as a celebrity. Whether you're a fan of Christopher Biggins or simply enjoy a good read, From Basildon to Broadway and Back is a must-have book.
